FAQ

What can I expect from my office visit?

At the first visit your practitioner will go through your medical history with you asking questions and getting a picture for how long certain patterns have been a part of you and, if possible, their originating triggers. Te first visit is anywhere between 1 hour and two hours in length depending on length of history and acupuncture treatment is incorporated into this time. Follow-up appointments are one hour in length and herbal medicine and other lifestyle and nutritional advice are included.

How many treatments will I need?

Treatment will vary from person to person but generally treatment protocols are between 4-12 weekly visits. Progress will be re-evaluated after several visits and re-assessed as needed.

Does acupuncture hurt?

Generally the needles are painless. The needles we use are extremely fine (slightly wider than a human hair) and are not hollow like the needles used to draw blood at your doctor’s office. Many needles will have no sensation associated with them at all. Occasionally insertion will produce a brief alight pinch which goes away quickly. If anything is uncomfortable, please tell your acupuncturist and the needle will be removed. Sometimes there is a “qi” sensation with a needle that can be described as a deep ache or a sense of movement. This is normal and indicates things are working! Most people fall asleep with the needles in and wake up feeling refreshed.
